Quilt Raffle Fundraiser

Who would have thought that my first blog post on my own website would be about a fundraiser Theresa Black and I are working on together?

My mom and I were having coffee at Espresso Laine one day and we were talking about Rich Winkelmann and his family. We both were heart broken for them and their little baby, Maura. At just 3 months old, baby Maura underwent surgery to remove a brain tumor. The tests came back that it was cancer.  On August 30 Maura began a very aggressive chemo treatment that is expected  to last about 6 months with a lot of inpatient care.

I left the coffee shop and was driving home when I had the idea how I could help. I quickly called my quilting buddy, Theresa and pitched the quilt raffle idea to her. I remember Theresa first saying to me, “Aimee, did you have too much caffeine again?” but by the end of the pitch Theresa was saying “Oh my goodness, that’s an awesome idea and I know the perfect pattern we can make.” So within 2 weeks we had it pieced and back from the quilters.

The quilt turned out beautiful. We each made 6 of the stars and our colors we chose totally worked. Everything just fell into place. We decided the winner will be announce on Saturday, November 24, 2018, giving us plenty of time to sell tickets. I thought it would be nice to offer tickets for sale online since there may be out of town people that would like to purchase. I set up a benefit checking account that all funds will be deposited in and Theresa and I will present Rich and Anne with the check after Thanksgiving.

Rich and Anne are too proud to admit that they may need help, but costs add up. Even if it helps cover the cost of fuel driving back and forth to doctor visits or buying a dinner out for the family celebrating a milestone. We just want to help. I know Rich and Anne would do the same thing if the tables were turned.
